Nippon Connection @ Frankfurt

Tengshing Kazama who is a Zen monk as well as an artist, will have a Zen Installation, Lecture, and Workshop together with I Seigaku at "Nippon Connection".

This event will be held in Frankfurt, GERMANY from June 7th - 9th.

It is one of the biggest Japanese film festivals in the world.

Tengshing has been very active in Europe the past few years, performing his art in many EU countries.

I wish you will get a glimpse of what lies within this Installation. A wisdom teaching how the whole world could live a sustainable, peaceful life together.

It goes without saying there will be plenty of interesting Japanese movies which are highly recommended to see, such as "ODAYAKA", "THE LAND OF HOPE", "FOR LOVES SAKE" and "KEY OF LIFE"...etc.

I truly hope this even will become an opportunity for people around the world to encounter the beauty of Japanese culture.

If you happen to be in Frankfurt in June, see you at Nippon Connection!

Herzlichen Grüßen,

<Installation 「日常茶飯事」 "A Daily Occurrence">

"Oryokitempatsu"

An eating ceremony practiced in Zen temples for over 760 years, will be preformed as an installation.

Oryokitempatsu is usually not seen by public.

It is done in a special hall in Zen temple.

"It is to be seen by no one." Nevertheless the beautiful detailed manners has been inherited by Zen monks till this day.

Zen is said to be the origin of many traditional Japanese arts, such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement and martial arts. The core of Japanese culture even sublimates eating into art.

I deeply wish you will get a glimpse of what lies within this ceremony, a wisdom teaching how the whole world could live a sustainable, peaceful life together.

(日常  daily life → tea/飯 →meal 日常茶飯事 is a Japanese word expressing the ordinary things we do naturally in daily life.)

<Lecture 「禅とは何か?」 What is Zen?>

- How do we become a Zen Monk?

- How is life in Zen temples?

- Why are Zen and Art compatible?

- How do Zen temples survive without earning money?

Steve Jobs who created "iPhones" from Apple had studied Zen for many years.

Why is Zen recognized and practiced around the world today?

Two Zen monks who practiced in Eiheiji, talk about why Zen attracts people, and how to apply Zen in modern society.

<Workshop 禅の作法 "ZAZEN & ZEN MOVEMENT in the city">

- How do we sit ZAZEN?

- What is Zen?  ~life in a ZEN temple~

- Practice ZEN Movements! ~for people who live in the city~

We will do "ZAZEN"(the sitting ZEN) in this workshop, also some ZEN Movements which can be applied to daily life in modern society.

ZAZEN is to sit and "undo".

What does it mean to "undo"?

It is difficult for us to "undo", do something without any purpose.

Today we are told there must be a purpose for whatever we do.

But when on earth did we start behaving like this?

Please let go of the difficult image of ZEN for a moment.

It's a gateway to "peace" for anybody, anytime, anywhere.

Let's devote yourself to "undo"

and encounter the joy of life free of EGO.
