"Tou San Rin Ku Jaku"

A verse from the "Tenpatsu no Ge". The very first sutra we chant before opening our Oryôki. We look over the history of the manners we are about to practice, all the way back to Buddha's time, and give our thoughts to the origin of Oryôki.

1 The Buddha was born as a prince of the Shaka-family, in a castle called Cabila.
2 Realizing the vanity of life, he left the royal family. After going through asceticism, he reached enlightenment under a bo tree in the land of Makada.
3 He began to preach in the land of Harana,
4 died in Kuchira.

5 The Oryôki which has been handed down to us from the Buddha.
6 Now I am opening the same thing.
7 Together with the ones who give, the ones who are given, the gifts itself, and all the existence,
8 may we reach the state of selflessness
